CLINICS
CERVICAL SMEAR
TESTS
Cancer of the cervix can be prevented
and all female patients between 20 and 64 years of age are advised to have regular
smear tests. These tests are important because they can detect early signs of
disease which is easily treated. A call and re-call system is operated to remind
you when your test is due. The Practice Nurses hold clinics throughout the week
at various times for these routine tests to be carried out. Please ask at reception
for details.
MINOR SURGERY
Some minor operations including treatment
for warts, verrucae and joint injections are carried out at the Medical Centre.
The Doctor will advise you if your condition is suitable for treatment at the
centre and a special appointment will be arranged for you.
MATERNITY
Maternity care is shared between
the Doctors and Midwives. The Midwives attend the Medical Centre on Tuesday and
Wednesday afternoons and all consultations are by appointment once pregnancy has
been confirmed by the Doctor. Antenatal and Postnatal appointments can be made
with the Doctors during normal surgery.
FAMILY PLANNING
A Family Planning Clinic is held every Friday 2.30-4.30pm by Dr Haeney and Sister Beverly Hackwell. Consultations are by appointment, but "drop-in" times are available. A full range of contraceptive services is available. Sexual health advice to teenagers is also offered at the Clinic.
CHILD HEALTH DEVELOPMENT
All children are offered developmental checks at eight weeks, eight months, two years and three years. These are planned and shared by your Health Visitor and Doctor. You will receive appointments automatically for your children via the computer call-up system. The eight week and three year checks are carried out at the Medical Centre.
IMMUNISATIONS AND
VACCINATIONS
Children
It is essential to protect children
by making sure they have a full programme of immunisation. There is a computerised
call-up system and most children will receive an appointment through the post
at the right time. If, for any reason, you cannot keep this appointment, please
contact the Medical Centre and arrange an alternative appointment.
If your child is overdue an injection,
please contact the Nurse.
The Nurse holds an immunisation clinic
every Tuesday afternoon, 2.00 to 5.10pm.
Adults
All vaccinations necessary for travel to other countries are administered by the specialist Nurse. These vaccinations are usually carried out in the Travel Clinic. Please ask at Reception for details of the Clinic and make your appointment well in advance of your holiday. Even for non-travellers it is important to keep up to date with tetanus and polio vaccinations. If you are not sure whether you are currently protected, please contact the Specialist Nurse who will be happy to advise you.
Influenza Vaccination
Each year in October/November a programme of influenza
vaccination is carried out at the Medical Centre and it is strongly recommended
that patients at greatest risk, ie those over 65 years of age, diabetics, asthmatics
and those with a history of heart disease take advantage of this vaccination.
